LATEEN SAILS REGATTA “LATINSKO IDRO”
Regulations for registration and participation in the regatta

GENERAL SECTION
The primary purpose of the “Latinskoidro” Regatta is not competition or victory, and neither is the mere participation. The primary goal is to revive the memory of a way of life at sea and the use of a specific type of boat. Therefore, any originality in appearance, equipment or sailing method gives a competitor a certain advantage in the form of a prize or in some other form.
Leut, gajeta and kaić, the three boat types competing in the regatta, are in principle neither designed nor constructed as vessels for fast navigation. These boats, especially leut and gajeta, were built as multipurpose vessels intended for managing overseas estates, which essentially means transportation of goods to the home port. They are heavy laborer boats, not intended for competition, with hardness and stability as their main features.
For this reason, competitors are asked to observe the rules for avoiding collisions at sea while sailing in the regatta, but also to take into account the maneuvering disadvantages of these boat types.

SPECIAL SECTION
The regatta is held in the name of Saint Michael, patron of the Murter parish, but it may not take place on the actual day of the patron saint, September 29.
The regatta is held in Murter and the start is always from the Hramina bay. Taking into account the weather conditions, the exact starting point and method, as well as the sailing course, are all determined by the Regatta Committee on the day of the competition.
In case of unfavorable weather conditions, the regatta is first postponed until a later time in the same day, and if the weather conditions are such that the regatta cannot take place on the same day, then it is postponed for the following Sunday at the same time.

ORGANIZER
The competition is organized by the Latinskoidro Association from Murter.
The Organizing Committee is composed of elected representatives of the organizer, co-organizers and sponsors.
The Regatta Committee consists of three members, appointed by the Organizing Committee.

REGISTRATION
Notice of competition is issued by the Organizer no later than 20 days before the competition and it shall be communicated to the participants by publication in the media, on social networks and websites, by direct informing and in other ways.
Registration for the regatta is filled in on a special form, at the premises of the Murter-Kornati Tourist Board, no later than two hours before the start of the regatta.

CATEGORIES
Boats may compete in five categories:
LEUT - more than 7 meters long
GAJETA - from 5.30 to 6.99 meters long
GAJETA WITHOUT ENGINE - from 5.30 to 6.99 meters long. This category covers boats without an inboard motor or without a propeller.

Only traditional lateen sails and traditionally built boats (wooden construction) may compete. Other participants in the regatta, those without such sails or boat hull, shall sail out of competition.

The basic crew consists of a skipper and two other members. It is preferable and recommended for each crew to accommodate children and interested guests on their boat, because the regatta also has an educational purpose.
Since nowadays all boats have engines and propellers, these must be present at the start. It is not permitted to remove any part of the equipment. Possible competitors in boats that have never had an engine and propeller installed are welcome.
When turning toward the wind (tacking), it is permitted to use the oars (rowing) until the boat picks up speed. After that, the oars must be removed. Any other use of oars (except for avoiding danger or permission of the Regatta Committee) shall disqualify the boat from further competition.
In the case of extremely weak winds, it shall be permitted to row under the wind with a single oar. However, such permission must be given by the Regatta Committee during the regatta, in a form of a prearranged signal (for example, flare).
In the case of extremely weak winds, it is possible to shorten the navigation route. This decision shall be communicated to the competitors by the Regatta Committee with a prearranged signal.
If the winds completely stop during the regatta, the use of two oars, and no more than two, shall be approved with a prearranged signal. Crews which finish in those conditions shall be ranked in order of arrival.
